A Leading Basildon councillor would like to thank residents for recycling more than ever this Christmas.

Basildon residents recycled 2619.32 tonnes of material, which is a 31.46 per cent year-on-year increase from 1992.41 in December 2010.

This covers all material collected through Basildon Council’s kerbside recycling schemes.

Councillor Malcolm Buckley, cabinet member for environment, said: “This is a fantastic effort from the borough and a great start to the New Year.

“These figures are a springboard to our goal to achieve a recycling rate of 50 per cent.”
